Board

Jerry Grubbs, Chair Jerry is an ordained minister in the Church of God. He has served a number of
congregations as Senior Pastor. In 2001 he retired from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana after
twenty-eight years of service. Jerry served as Professor of Religion, Dean of the School of Theology, Dean
of the University Chapel and Vice President of Student Development and Intercollegiate Athletics. He has
been Chair of the Board of Directors of Heart to Honduras since its creation in 1989

Scott Kardatzke, Vice Chair Scott is a physician in Wichita, Kansas and long-time supporter of Heart
to Honduras. He joined the Board in 2000.

Gordon Garrett, President Gordon has long been an enthusiastic supporter of Heart to Honduras,
first as pastor of Burns Avenue Church of God in Lake Wales, Florida, and then as pastor of Sloan's Lake
Community Church in Denver, Colorado. He joined the Board of Directors in 1996 and took up the full-time
position of president of the ministry in June 1999. Gordon and his wife Sandy lived in Denver before they
recently moved to Xenia, Ohio to oversee establishment and operations of the ministry's new stateside
office there. Gordon works with field and stateside workers to direct the many-faceted work of Heart to
Honduras, and communicates the ministry's activities and needs to a large network of friends, support
agencies and others with a view to heightening awareness and expanding resources.

Miguel Pinell, Director for Honduras Operations As Executive Director of Corazon Para
Honduras, Heart to Honduras' sister organization in Honduras, Miguel oversees all of the field activities of
the ministry. Born in Nicaragua and a committed servant of the church there until he came to the United
States to further his education, Miguel earned his Associate of Arts degree from Warner Southern College
in 1987 and went to Honduras to work with a Christian development organization. In 1988 he and Heart to
Honduras founder Charlie Smith began working with village churches in Honduras. He married his wife and
partner in ministry Nilsa in 1988.

Steve Birch, Director Steve is senior pastor of Eastland Church of God is Lexington, Kentucky. A
friend of Heart to Honduras' founder Charlie Smith and one of the first pastors to visit Honduras with Heart
to Honduras, Steve has with the Lexington church been an active supporter of the ministry for many years.
He was asked to join the Board in 2000, and has continued to provide valuable input in this new position.

Larry Lilly, Director A leading surgeon in the Columbus, Ohio area, Larry has supported the work of
Heart to Honduras for many years by leading annual medical teams to the field. Larry was invited to join the
Board in 2001.

Robin Wood, Director Former Pastor of Mountain Park Community Church in Phoenix, Arizona, Robin
was invited in fall 2001 to become Heart to Honduras' newest board member. Mountain Park, a dynamic
fellowship, has risen to become one of the ministry’s strongest supporters in recent years. Robin shares his
excitement and commitment for Heart to Honduras wherever he goes. He thanks the Lord for the impact
this ministry has had on his life and the ministry of Mountain Park. We thank the Lord for Robin, Mountain
Park and his enthusiastic acceptance to join Heart to Honduras’ ministry in this capacity.

Jennifer White, Director Ohio physician Jennifer White has been coming to Honduras for a number of
years with teams connected through Dr. Larry Lilly, who has been supporting the ministry since its
beginning. She has provided invaluable assistance to the advancement of Heart to Honduras' medical
ministries in Honduras.

Paul Keeler, Director Vice President of Food Service for Hilton Hotels, Paul is a member of Mountain
Park Community Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Mountain Park became very actively involved in the ministry of
Heart to Honduras several years ago, and Paul has been at the forefront of encouraging growing support
for the ministry within his congregation and beyond.

Lorna Kardatzke, Honorary Director Lorna is a charter member of the Heart to Honduras Board of
Directors and occupied the office of Vice President from 1994 to 1999. She was a strong, consistent, and
gracious support to her brother Charlie Smith, Heart to Honduras' founder, and she continues to be so to
the ministry.

The Board meets twice yearly to establish policy, provide accountability and consider how we may serve as partners
for ministry in Honduras and beyond.
