Coffee from Honduras
In 2002, after meeting with a group of Honduran coffee growers who had been forced to
destroy their crops for lack of a profitable market, Heart to Honduras field director
Miguel
Pinell had an idea. He began working with these farmers to develop a program for
helping both them and the ministry. Under their plan, coffee grown by the farmers would
be processed, packaged and made available to North American supporters of Heart to
Honduras under a unique ministry brand. Whatever income remained after the farmers
were paid would go to support other ministry outreaches in Honduras.

Miguel and Heart to Honduras president Gordon Garrett subsequently talked with a
Honduran official who works in the production and marketing of his country's coffee. With
this official’s help the ministry has begun developing a marketing plan for its coffee under
which export, broker and retail expenses can be bypassed, enabling the ministry to
receive a better income for the coffee, and growers in Honduras to see a larger share of
the fruits of their produce.
