Earthquake update: Message from Heart to Honduras President Gordon Garrett:
Friends,
I was able to talk with Miguel (after several attempts)...here is what we know about the earthquake that hit early this morning north of Honduras:
- Everyone in Canchias and San Isidro is okay--no one hurt and no buildings damaged
- Pan American road near Portrerillos is damaged (big hole)
- Pastor from Pena Blanca said a member's house was destroyed
- Pastor Eric in Las Lomitas said four people from their community were taken to the hospitals with injuries from the earthquake.
- Miguel said the earthquake woke everyone...he quickly ran downstairs to make sure Lorna and Lauren were okay. People in San Isidro were out in the streets for about 45 minutes after the quake hit. Miguel said it reminded him of the earthquake they experienced in Managua in '72 (although the magnitude was 6.2 compared to this one at 7.1). Electricty in the country is down and communication will be difficult.
- There is a pastors' meeting later this morning and Miguel will find out more and send a report following the meeting.
We will send more information as we get it...but please call if you have questions! I assured Miguel and the pastors that we are praying for them.
