Project: House construction (person with unique needs)
Submitted: August 2017
Solicitor: Local Church of El Achiotal
Location: El Achiotal, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortes, Honduras
Project Justification: Why do you need the project?
We believe that this family has unique needs since Alejandro (husband/father and family’s provider) has chronic epilepsy. As a result, Alejandro is unable to maintain consistent work and his income suffers as a result.
Supervisor’s Note: Alejandro has dealt with epilepsy since childhood. He is currently under the supervision of a qualified neurologist and is on medication. However, due to his condition, he frequently is unable to work for periods of time when his epilepsy flares up. In addition, from his meager agricultural income (~$175/month), he often needs to pay for medical services and medication, which make it difficult for him to save a significant sum of money with which to build a home.
General Objective: What do you hope to achieve with the project?
We hope to provide this family with a dignified roof over their heads - since they do not have their own home. In addition, we want to provide a safer and more sure future for their four year-old daughter.
Beneficiaries: Who and how many will continually benefit from this project?
Jose Alejandro Quintero (30), Doris Suyapa Amaya (domestic partner, 28), and Naomi Alejandra (daughter, 3).
The local municipal government will provide blacks and sand ($250).
The beneficiary will provide masonry labor, assistant labor, and stone ($250).
The two local churches will provide 15 bags of cement ($120).
Remaining materials and carpentry labor are requested from an outside donor.
