Heart to Honduras is excited to announce that Rachel Williams from Grosse Pointe,MI,
is joining our staff in Honduras in 2006. Equipped with a bachelor’s degree in
Spanish Language and Literature, and in Sociology from LaSalle University in
Philadelphia and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan,
she is a certified social worker in the state of Michigan and a clinical social worker.
She has worked with immigrant families, advocated for children with special needs,
translated in hospitals, provided direct therapy, facilitated training workshops for
professionals, and been involved with strategic planning for children’s programs,
taught English as a Second Language, and managed grants.
Rachel first became involved with HTH through providing training on child sexual abuse and counseling.
She has counseled past School of Discipleship students in individual and group sessions. Although not
widely publicized, sexual abuse is a major problem in Honduras. She views her call to work with HTH as an
“opportunity to serve in a setting where my skills are useful.” Even though her family (her parents live in
Michigan, a sister lives in New Jersey, and a brother lives in South Carolina) has been very supportive of
work and her call to move to Honduras, the difficult part of her call is “uprooting my life to move to another
country.”
Rachel’s goal is to “join the work that God is doing in Honduras through HTH, to serve in a setting where my
skills are useful.” More specifically she will be counseling with SOD students and staff as her primary focus.
In addition, she will be working in the clinic with the physician seeing patients as needed, teaching English
to the SOD students, and serving with the North American ministry teams as translator, worship leader and
staff leader.
Bienvenidos, Rachel!
