Stateside Staff
Jim Usher
Jim has been with Heart to Honduras since its creation in 1989. He
has served on the Board from the beginning, and for many of those
years has also served on the staff as a leader for North Americans
traveling to Honduras. After spending the first 18 years of the ministry
coordinating the calendar for teams visiting Honduras, his
responsibilities changed in January 2007 to being responsible for
promoting the Sister Church program. He had laid plans for a May,
2008 Ingathering of current pastors from both U.S. and Central
American churches who are in a sister church relationship, before
he began a sabbatical in January, 2008.
Jim is spending the year of 2008 writing the biography of Heart to Honduras founder Charlie Smith.
In addition to his many trips to Honduras, Jim has traveled to thirty countries on five continents. Jim’s heart
for sharing the Good News of the Kingdom of God grew out of a summer seminary practicum in the ghettos
of New York City. He was a pastor for 27 years, holds an undergraduate degree from Anderson University,
an MDiv degree from Asbury Seminary, and is currently working on his DMin from Anderson Theological
Seminary.
He is married to Carol Lynne Usher who also serves on staff with Heart to Honduras. Their son, Italian
daughter-in-law, and two preschool grandsons live in northern Italy; their daughter, son-in-law, and two
preschool granddaughters live in the southern U.S.
